The Federal Labor Government is investing $1 billion in the Western Freeway Upgrade, which will deliver safer, more efficient travel for residents in Melbourne’s West, including Melton, Bacchus Marsh, and Caroline Springs.
This upgrade will add more lanes, upgrade overpasses, and build new interchanges – ensuring safer, faster, and more reliable journeys for the 86,000 people who rely on this road every day.
Melton is the fastest-growing community in Australia, and local residents deserve the infrastructure they need to get home safer and spend less time stuck in traffic.
For nearly a decade, the former Liberal Government neglected the Western Freeway – failing to invest a single dollar. The Liberals did nothing while communities in Melbourne’s west faced growing congestion and longer travel times.
Labor is changing that. Three years ago, Labor committed $20 million to develop the business case for this vital upgrade.
With that work completed in December, the Federal Labor Government is now delivering the funding needed to get construction underway.
Only Labor is making sure Melbourne’s west isn’t left behind as we build Australia’s future.
