Sunbury’s Medicare Urgent Care Centre has now been open for more than 100 days and has treated more than 3,500 patients, giving locals families the care they need closer to home.
Australia’s Acting Prime Minister Richard Marles and Federal Member for Hawke Sam Rae visited the Sunbury UCC to celebrate this milestone, and to thank the dedicated staff who run it at Goonawarra Medical Centre.
Sam Rae MP went to the May 2022 Federal Election with a commitment that the Albanese Labor Government would deliver an Urgent Care Centre for Sunbury – with the promise delivered in June this year.
Now with extended hours, the Sunbury UCC is open 7 days a week from 8AM to 10PM. This means that it can see more patients, more often.
All services are fully bulk-billed with no need for an appointment, saving local families money for the treatment of cuts, minor burns, sprains and breaks.
Acting Prime Minister Richard Marles said “Urgent Care Clinics are pivotal in easing the burden on hospitals and getting patients access to the care they need when they need it. This was a promise of the Albanese Labor Government and we’re delivering on this for the people of Sunbury.”
Federal Member for Hawke Sam Rae said “I went to the last election promising to deliver an Urgent Care Centre for Sunbury – it’s great to see it already delivering for thousands of local families.”
Sunbury Urgent Care Centre Manager Chathura Kaluarachchi said “Our new Medicare Urgent Care Centre has helped thousands of patients when they need care the most. The recent addition of an after-hours X-Ray facility has been appreciated by patients. With all of this in place, Goonawarra Medical Centre can continue to provide the best quality care for Sunbury and surrounding residents.”
